Start Of Camp Information

We are looking forward to having the best summer camp season ever at MBDC.  You can help make it that way for your campers by knowing and explaining some of the rules and requirements that will keep them happy, healthy and safe.

Forms Needed To Start Camp: If you have not handed in your medical forms and permission slip or not chosen the weeks or days of week your camper is attending, you will need to do so to avoid the possibility not being able to begin camp!

1st day of camp- Tuesday, June 29, 2010 (Your own start date may be different).

Don’t worry if your camper is not starting on the first day.  We will do whatever is necessary to make them feel welcome no matter when they start.  Being shy is never a problem, only a temporary condition before realizing there is fun to be had J!

Please have your camper wear their t-shirts on their first day, all trip days and picture days! Does not apply to Teen Quest. TQ will receive daily instructions.

Pre School & Adventures campers received a name sticker.  Please have them wear it.  Stars, Explorer and Teen Quest campers will receive an index card.

Make sure to have your authorized pick up cards for campers in Pre-School and Adventures Camp.

Last day of camp - Friday, August 20, 2010 (Your own end date be different)

Remember that you can extend your enrollment at any time.  We also will be having the 9th week mini camp this year from

Camp day begins at  9:00 AM.  You may drop campers off beginning at 8:25 AM but please no earlier.  All group staff need to be here for the kids when they arrive so please do not arrive before 8:25.  You can bring breakfast with your kids if you like.

Camp day ends for Pre School at 3:30 PMexcept those with older siblings or who take the bus in which case it ends at 4:15 For Adventures, Stars, Explorers and Teens the camp day ends at 4:15 PM  Please arrive only between 4:15 - 4:20.  Please arrive on time to pick them up. They will want to tell you all about their day!

If you are picking up your camper early, you MUST, repeat  MUST call the camp office by 3:00 pm to do so.  This way we can have them ready for you to go.

Authorized Pickup: When you registered, you should have listed any and all people authorized to pick up your child each day.  While we attempt to familiarize ourselves with everyone who enters our building as quickly as we can, there may be times that you would need to send someone for the first time, someone who the staff does not recognize.  We issue Camper Pickup Authorization Cards to each family. They should be given to the persons other than the parents, in the event that they would be picking up your camper on any given day.  Their name must appear on the card and they must have identification to match.  If someone not listed will be picking up your camper, they must have this card with them AND you must contact the camp office in advance to make arrangements.   Make sure to have your authorized pick up cards for campers in Pre-School and Adventures Camp.

Early Drop Off begins at 7:30 AM and you must be registered for this program.  Bring breakfast if you wish.

Late Stay Pick Up is from 4:30 - 6:30 PM. and you must be registered for this program.  The kids will have an additional snack and do some low end programs such as computers, arcade etc.  The will not be swimming after camp ends.  Please arrive on time to pick them up as it will be a long, but always fun day. J.

Out Of Camp:  If your camper is not attending camp on a particular day, you DO NOT need to call the camp.   We will miss you on those days.

Meals & Snacks: All campers must bring Lunch with them every day.  Lunch should be non perishable items that do not need to be heated.  Lunch boxes are stored in coolers until lunch time. Snack will be provided daily for all campers in Pre School, Adventures and Stars.  Breakfast will be provided daily to Pre School Campers.  Check your calendar for days where lunch and/or snack is served for Explorers & Teens.  A small snack bar is on site to buy snacks as well.

Snacks are usually chips or pretzels or cookies and a drink.  Please feel free to send what you like as well.  If you can avoid sending anything with peanut butter, our allergic friends would be most grateful.

TRIP/EVENT calendars must be checked daily for information, destination and return times.  Please contact us if there are any questions.

Calling the Camp Office: All calls will be returned after camp only.  Emergencies will be handled on an individual basis.   The staff is busy doing their jobs and your campers are better served supervising the program.  We will call you back as soon as possible.

Email: We will only be corresponding via email daily so make sure you have one listed with us, AND CHECK YOUR SPAM/JUNK FOLDER!  You will be able to log on and see the next day schedule.

What to Pack lists also need to be checked each day.  Please remember to send a bathing suit and towel each and every day and have your campers wear sneakers and socks.  Pre school campers should have 1 change of clothes to leave at the camp.

What Not To Send:  Cellphones, Gameboys, PSP, DS, Ipods, etc. They always seem to find harms way and you work too hard to just have them disappear or get ruined.  If there are any special circumstances that require them, please let us know.

Swimming: Every camper will have a swimming test.  After which, each time they enter the pool they will be given a colored bracelet designating their abilities.  Swim instruction will be provided to beginner only if they agree to take the swim test.  Those who don’t will not be allowed to swim.  It might be a good idea to have your kids wear their bath suits to camp if possible.  REMEMBER, SUNTAN LOTION IS A MUST EVERY DAY!

Bus Transportation Information

Our provider, Superior Bus Service would like us to remind you of the rules concerning their transportation service.

We will call you before the first day of camp with the approximate pick up and drop times.  Please be patient during the first several days as we work to make the bus times consistent. We suggest you be ready by 7:00 am on the first few days and at 4:30 pm at least for the first few days.

We will be using yellow school buses and vans for service.  Vehicle type will depend on your area of pickup.  Note: Not all vehicles are air conditioned.

Door to door pickup and drop is not available in some cases.  If door to door pickup is not available you will be notified where to meet the bus.  You will be given your morning bus number and evening bus number as well as the name(s) of your bus counselor(s).

Please NOTE IT WILL TAKE several days FOR bus service to get a consistent schedule in place, so please make arrangements to allow for extra time during this adjustment period.  PLEASE HAVE YOUR CAMPER READY VERY EARLY and BE HOME EARLY TO GREET THEM UNTIL THE SCHEDULE IS CONSISTANT.

Once a regular schedule is in place, please have your camper ready approximately 5 – 10 min prior to your scheduled pick up each day.  Once the bus arrives, it will wait about 3 minutes for a camper before departing.  Once the bus leaves, it will not return on that morning to pick up your child.

If your child is not coming to camp on a particular day, you DO NOT NEED TO CALL THE CAMP OFFICE.  This is a change from previous years and is being implemented by the bus company.  However, please keep in mind that you will need to have your child ready as stated above.  If your child will not need bus service home on a particular day, you must call the camp office before 3:00 PM to let us know so as to not put your camper on the bus.

In the evening drop off, please make sure to have someone waiting to receive your camper.  If no one is there to greet them, the bus will wait about 3 min before leaving for the next stop and your camper will have to remain on the bus for the duration of the run before being returned to the camp office where they will have to be picked up.

Mill Basin Day Camp bus counselor(s) will be on each bus for morning pick up and evening drop off.  Please introduce yourself to them. Their responsibilities include bus attendance, safety and supervision.  All Pre-School campers will be seat belted in.  Someone will need to hand your child off to the bus counselor and/or to receive your child off the bus each day.  A bus counselor cannot and will not leave the bus to escort campers across the street or in to homes or buildings.  This is done to ensure the safety of the campers remaining on the bus.  There are no exceptions to this rule.

If your camper has special requirements for bus transportation or if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call the camp office so we can pass the information on to the bus company.

As always, please feel free to call the camp anytime if you have questions. See You Soon!
